“You cannot change any society unless you take responsibility for it, unless you see yourself as belonging to it and responsible for changing it.” — Grace Lee Boggs
Himalaya Rao turns investment policy into action. Over a decade in impact investing and venture finance, she's been a part of six funds, launched two economic development funds, and now leads The BFM Fund, a direct investing vehicle built to decentralize wealth across the socioeconomic spectrum.
Her diligence experience spans equity, debt, and grant underwriting — experience she now puts to work for Richmond Memorial Health Foundation and Orchid Capital Collective, where she supports financial diligence on prospective investments and advises leadership on the right mix of instruments to build customized offerings.
A former educator at three universities, Himalaya founded Venture Partners to build real pathways into impact investing. Through the Restorative Finance Academy, she now trains foundations, family offices, finance professionals, and those holding positional privilege in macroeconomic theory, restorative finance models, and solidarity economy frameworks.
Himalaya is embedded across the investment field, deepening her knowledge and network in fellowships with Just Economy Institute, Boston Impact Initiative, VC Include, and Catalyze. She was also invited by Senator Wyden to deliver expert testimony to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on the need for representative capital vehicles.
She holds an MSW and MBA, alongside specialized training in venture finance, integrated capital structures, and community-based impact investing. Her motto: there's always a structure that can move wealth toward the goals people actually have — and help them re-matriate it. Capital is already driving systemic change in pockets around the world; Himalaya designs the strategies and systems that scale it.
When she’s not out driving systemic change, she loves going on long walks with her incredible wife and three dogs — and is a full-time chauffeur and chef to two bulldogs and a pitbull.
